AboutTools that never see your files
FileLocally is a small, independent web project built around one idea: everyday file conversions should not require uploading your documents to a stranger's server.
Most "free online converter" sites work by receiving your file, processing it in a data centre, and returning the result. That model forces you to trust an unknown operator with contracts, ID scans, invoices, medical records and family photos. FileLocally takes the opposite approach. Every tool on this site — the image compressor, the JPG-to-PDF converter, the PDF merger and the SVG rasteriser — runs entirely inside your own browser using the HTML5 File API, the Canvas rendering engine and the open-source pdf-lib library. Your files are read into your device's memory, transformed on your own processor, and handed straight back as a download. Nothing is transmitted; there is nothing for us to store, leak, or lose.
Who runs FileLocally?
FileLocally is operated by an independent UK-based developer. It is not owned by a data broker, an adtech network, or a document-management company. There is no venture funding and no growth team — just a utility that is fast, private and free to use.
How is the site funded?
Through clearly labelled display advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertising lets the tools stay free with no sign-up, no watermarks and no artificial file limits. Ads never interact with your files — remember, the files never leave your device in the first place. You can read exactly what data the advertising layer uses in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Our editorial standards
The guides on our blog are written to be practically useful: tested steps, honest trade-offs, and no invented statistics. When a technique has limitations — for example, that raster-to-vector conversion cannot recover true vector data — we say so plainly, on the tool page itself.
