LegalPrivacy Policy
1. Who we are
FileLocally ("we", "us") is a free, browser-based file utility website operated from the United Kingdom by Sanka Ventures. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, we are the data controller for the limited personal data described in this policy. Contact: hello@filelocally.com.
2. Your files: never collected, never uploaded
All file processing on FileLocally (image compression and conversion, image-to-PDF, PDF page extraction, PDF merging, SVG rasterisation) happens entirely within your web browser using client-side JavaScript. When you select a file:
- It is read into your device's local memory using the HTML5 File API.
- It is transformed on your device's own processor.
- The result is offered back to you as a local download.
At no point is the file, its contents, its filename, or any derivative transmitted to our servers or to any third party. We do not have servers that receive files. This is an architectural property of the site, not merely a promise.
3. Data we do process
3.1 Server logs
Like virtually every website, our hosting provider records standard access logs when you load the page: your IP address, browser user-agent, the page requested, referrer, and a timestamp. We use these solely for security monitoring and aggregate traffic statistics. Logs are retained for up to 30 days. Legal basis: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) in keeping the service secure and available.
3.2 Advertising (Google AdSense)
FileLocally is funded by display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its certified advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, cap frequency, measure performance and — where you have consented — personalise ads based on your visits to this and other websites.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings, and opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com (EU/UK).
Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland are shown a consent message before any personalised advertising cookies are set. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the "Privacy & cookie settings" link in the footer of this site. Where consent is refused, Google may serve non-personalised ads that rely on contextual information only. See Google's own policy at policies.google.com/technologies/ads and our Cookie Policy for details.
3.3 Email
If you email us, we process your email address and message content to respond to you. Legal basis: legitimate interests. Correspondence is deleted within 12 months of resolution.
4. What we do NOT do
- We do not require or offer user accounts, so we hold no account data.
- We do not collect names, addresses, payment details or file contents.
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not use your files for machine-learning training — we never receive them.
5. Cookies
See the dedicated Cookie Policy for a full table of cookies and how to manage them.
6. International transfers
Google LLC is based in the United States. Where advertising data is transferred outside the UK/EEA, Google relies on safeguards including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and UK Extension, and standard contractual clauses.
7. Your rights (UK GDPR)
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to, and port the personal data we hold about you, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Given the site's architecture, the data we hold about any individual is minimal (typically short-lived server logs and any email you've sent us). To exercise a right, email hello@filelocally.com with the subject "Privacy request". You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Children
FileLocally is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Ad personalisation is disabled for traffic Google identifies as likely coming from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage.
